If I had a dollar for every time I said "shit", "dammit", "son-of-a...", or the f word today, I'd have a good lump some to set aside for retirement. I spent the night and most of today getting the work computers fixed. On the bright side, I recovered the main sales database and will be able to restore it. On the minus side, I lost all the other files. That's not so bad because we have a paper trail that we can use to rebuild those records.
So, here I am, finishing up a complete reinstall of Windows XP and the point of sale system. I've got the XP part done. I am finishing up on the Norton Anti-virus install on one computer. The other computer is already done. I will have to wait until tomorrow to finish because I need to install a Quickbooks POS upgrade that's on a disk at work. I still have to network the computers and get them set up like they were.
I will definitely make these computers non-Internet terminals. The crap I had to go through these past couple days is not worth the temporary joy of surfing the web at work.
I'm going to try to convince Liz to let me buy a network storage system or at least a zip drive or something similar. This would have been much simpler if I had daily backups. It's a bitch trying to get people to understand that the peace of mind is worth the cost.
Right now I am enjoying a bump up in bandwidth. Since I knew that I'd be installing anti-virus updates, I called Rioplex Wireless to have them increase the speed to my modem. I am at 512/128 kbps. It's gonna cost me. I'm going to take advantage of it while I have it, I'll reduce the speed next month.
