You can listen to today’s show on Blog Talk Radio.
Let’s talk about what you need for your day in and day out mobile needs as the professional you are. We’re not talking extended travel, just around town travel. As a professional, you may spend some time driving around town to different appointments. So, what do you need to get by?
The simplest item you need is a pad of paper. Of course, you also need a pen. You’ll never get away from having to take notes.
Next, you’ll need a mobile phone. You can probably get by with a basic phone for keeping in touch with the office. However, there are some advantages to having a smartphone or a mobile phone/PDA combo. For the most part, you may be able to do well enough with a thumb drive to carry documents with you. However, this will require that you borrow a computer on-site or carry a laptop with you so that you can access those files. The advantage a smartphone or a regular phone and a PDA is that you can access these documents on the go and even send and receive while you are out.
A laptop is handy, but it does hinder your ability to remain mobile. Despite their compact size compared to desktops, laptops are still a bit inconvenient at times. For around town computing, you may look into Sprint EVDO for your wireless connection. This is the closest thing to broadband out there. The other must-have for the mobile professional is a power inverter for the car to keep the laptop running. We’ll go over more on the show.
