Today, I bit the bullet and added the premium service to RGV-Life.com that allows me to add my own Google Adsense code to the site. I’ve seen an increase in traffic and have started gaining members. I’m still doing the majority of the posts, but there are some tentative posts by some of the members. The important thing is that there is traffic.
The downside is that the privilege of adding your own adsense code costs a little less than $20/month. This means that I need a crapload of traffic and clicks to make it worthwhile. The good news is that the regional nature of the site makes the ads highly targeted. So, many of the ads I’ve seen are very relevant to the overall theme of the sight and the topics of the individual posts. I’ll try it out for this month while I am out selling ads to local businesses. If I can line up local advertisers, then I will drop the google ads and promote the more profitable banner ads. It’s all experimental at this point.
