Let’s put aside that this blog is named after me, is about me, and is almost literally me. I’m not one to self-promote what I do. I really am a shy, unassuming guy. On occasion, however, I do have to call attention to other stuff that I’m doing. Here are links to my other blogs.
I just started this site to get a New Media club going for the Rio Grande Valley. There is a lot of talent in the Rio Grande Valley, and I aim to recognize that talent. First, however, we need to get our new media geeks together to build a community that can bestow that recognition. We have our first meeting this weekend.
RGV Life started out as a way to spread the good word about the region where I live. We’re a bit out of the way; you have to come here to get here as we are not on the way anywhere. We had some bad mojo about the Rio Grande Valley. I decided to start a blog to counteract that. I still blog there. Lately, I’ve been using New Media principles to make this blog a bit more social than just informational.
Just as RGV Life is about the Rio Grande Valley, Missiontexas.net is about my home town, Mission, Tx. I don’t actually keep up with what’s in the news about Mission so much. I kind of make my own. It’s basically about my experience of living in Mission and the experiences of others. The goal is also to make this site a bit more social.
SpinRGV is a turnkey blog. I receive press releases from politicians and government entities and I post them here. It’s called SpinRGV because they all take the same event and Spin it to their own advantage. The press releases are not altered in any way. I figure people ought to judge for themselves rather than have me “filter” the news. This isn’t so much a social site as a free AdSense traffic generator. I do get the occasional comment.
This blog is dying. It takes a lot of time to hunt for reunion information and I can’t get people to submit news. We did have a good site going using phpNuke, but it got hacked. Taking that down just spiraled the community into the floor. I would like to resurrect it, but I would need help.
This is another site I ditched. It started off well; but there were all kinds of limitations on what I could write about due to my position. In the end, all I could write about was trivial, non-session stuff. Working on the inside is both a blessing and a curse. It’s more of a curse for blogging.
Others
Then, of course, there are the communities on Facebook, Myspace, Flickr, Youtube, and Twitter. There are more, but I focus on the ones I just mentioned more.
