Waking Up at 5 AM, A New Start

Have you ever started doing something great and then have to stop doing it because something else interferes? I had been waking up every day at 5 AM in the second half of April. Things were not so busy at work back then, except for a committee hearing once a week that would go late. Consequently, I was able to get to bed at a decent hour, maybe 10 PM, usually 11 PM, or midnight if I wanted to push it a little. As the pace started picking up at work, I wasn’t getting home until way past midnight, which made the early morning rising unsustainable. So, I started sleeping in again just so that I could get my minimum 6 hours sleep.

There have been other things that have contributed to the demise of my waking up early habit. Right now, I am battling to get myself back into a regular sleeping pattern. Staying up til all hours and then sleeping it off in the mornings has resulted in a haphazard sleep pattern. Once I get myself back to going to bed early, I can start getting myself up at 5 AM.

Just to recap a little, I find that I am more productive and inspired when I wake up early.

  • Blogging and doing personal stuff when you are tired at the end of the day a bit tougher than doing it when you are refreshed and ready to go.
  • Waking up early also gives you time to plan out your day and to prepare for it.
  • In the end, your day is less stressful because you know what your focus will be rather than making up priorities as you go.
  • Finally, waking up early makes it easier to do things like make your bed, eat breakfast, and drive to work because you are not in a rush.
