Congratulations
I want to start off by congratulating the San Antonio Podcasters group for doing such a great job on putting together PodCamp San Antonio. It’s crazy that the group was able to throw this together in 2 months. Thanks to great teamwork and hard work, we were able to have such a great event. You can read about it in the San Antonio Express News. I especially want to congratulate Jennifer Navarrete for doing such a great job in motivating and leading the team. In addition, Michael de Leon was able to get a lot of leg work done for PodCamp despite a knee injury (that was a pun). There are also others who contributed greatly to the project. There are Richard Galvan, Lans Hobart, Nathan Lott, City Cynic, and Alysan Delaney amongst others. We had help from many more people who made the event possible in such a short time. Great job, everyone!
Thanks to the Sponsors
We were fortunate to get the support of many sponsors.
We also had many unofficial sponsors who generously donated money to PCSA but could not attend. Many thanks to our lunch donors as well. We could not have done it on our own.
What Happened
The whole unconference movement is a bit new, so we started off with single-topic presentations in the morning for the “beginner” topics. In order to get the unconference feel, we broke out the afternoon “advanced” sessions. This was a great move as more people got into the discussions and participated on a whole new level. I think everybody loved Gary Leland‘s presentation, he has good stage presence. Later we had a visit from the Podcast Pickle, who was recently released by the feds. We had all kinds of presentations throughout the day. We heard about podcasting in Spanish, how to use Audacity, vidcasting by Michael Verdi, and a range of other topics. Some people were into learning the technical aspects of podcasting while others wanted to learn about marketing their sites. There were a few in the crowd who wanted to get into podcasting without any prior knowledge. They were so glad to attend. Once we had the breakout sessions, PCSA got a very organic feel to it; it was alive.

The Next PodCamp San Antonio
We have even better news. After getting this event going in such a short time, it occurs to us that we could probably do an even better job with more time to plan. Therefore, PodCamp San Antonio 2008 will be held May 17, 2008. We did receive responses from many of the people we invited to the event asking for more timely notice. I think this will help many of those who missed the first Texas PodCamp due to scheduling to make it to the next. You’re welcome to sign up for the next PCSA to receive updates.
More to Come
As would be expected from a PodCast event, there are video and podcasts waiting to be edited and put up on the web. As they come in, I’ll be adding links to them for those who missed the event. Or, if you attended and you really liked a presentation, you can watch it again. If you have some audio, video, or photos of your own, drop me a comment so I can link to it.
